A Congress MP died of a heart attack during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, causing the March to be halted.

Santokh Singh Chaudhary, a Congress MP from Punjab, died of a heart attack this morning while participating in the Bharat Jodo Yatra,He was 76.
The party’s Jalandhar MP, Santokh Singh Chaudhary, collapsed during the march in Punjab’s Phillaur. He was taken in an ambulance to a hospital in Phagwara, where he died later.
A party leader said Rahul Gandhi, who was leading the yatra, left midway and rushed to the hospital where the veteran Congress leader had been taken. He will most likely meet Mr Chaudhary’s family later at his home in Jalandhar.
Mr Gandhi later shared a photo collage from today’s yatra in which he and other party members are seen walking alongside Mr Chaudhary.
The yatra has been halted for the time being, according to Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, who also stated that Mr Chaudhary’s cremation will take place tomorrow morning.
Mr Chaudhary’s death was mourned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said he will be remembered for his efforts to serve the people of Punjab.
Saddened by the death of MP Shri Santokh Singh Chaudhary Ji. He will be remembered for his dedication to the people of Punjab. Please accept my condolences to his family and supporters. “Om Shanti,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
Mr Chaudhary’s death has been described as a “great blow to the party and organisation” by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.
We were shocked and saddened to learn of our MP, Shri Santokh Singh Chaudhary’s, untimely death. His departure is a significant setback for the party and organisation. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and followers during this difficult time. May his soul find peace “He tweeted about it.
Jairam Ramesh, a Congress leader, tweeted, “Santokh Singh Chaudhary, 76, a Congress MP from Jalandhar, died of a heart attack during the Bharat Jodo Yatra this morning. We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family. There will be some changes to the yatra’s schedule, which will be communicated shortly.
Om Birla, Congress leader Amarinder Singh, and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also expressed their condolences.
Mr Chaudhary had previously won Lok Sabha elections in 2014 and 2019. His son, Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, is a Congress MLA from the Punjab assembly constituency of Phillaur.
