According to reports, the Sydney police detained the Sri Lankan cricketer during Sunday’s ICC World T20 match.
Danushka Gunathilaka, a cricket player for Sri Lanka, is said to have been detained by Sydney police during Sunday’s ICC World T20 2022 competition. The Sri Lankan batter was detained in the early hours of the morning in Sydney from the team hotel after being charged by the local authorities following an alleged sexual assault incident. According to the most recent information, Gunathilaka was detained following the sexual assault of a 29-year-old lady at a Rose Bay apartment.
“The woman met the man after corresponding with him via an online dating program for a number of days; it is alleged that he then sexually attacked her on the evening of Wednesday, November 2, 2022. A property in Rose Bay was the site of a crime scene assessment yesterday as part of ongoing investigations, according to a statement from the New South Wales police.

Since the star batter was disqualified from the World Cup’s main event in the first round, Gunathilaka had no impact on Sri Lanka’s World Cup campaign during the Super 12 stage. Due to a hamstring injury, the Sri Lankan batter was forced to sit out the finals of the T20 World Cup. The injured batter stayed with the team in Australia even though Gunathilaka was replaced in the World Cup roster.
“After further investigation, a 31-year-old man was seized at a hotel on Sussex Street in Sydney just before 1 in the morning today (Sunday 6 November 2022). He was brought to Sydney City Police Station and accused with four counts of having sex without permission. The Sri Lankan national was denied bail to appear via AVL in Parramatta Bail Court today “police tacked on.

For the Islanders, Gunathilaka has participated in 8 Tests, 47 ODIs, and 46 T20Is. At the R.Premadasa Stadium in 2015, the 31-year-old made his international debut against the West Indies. Former champions Sri Lanka exited the ICC T20 World Cup during the Super 12 round.
