Police were able to solve the case thanks to the bank transfer from the victim’s phone to the murderer Aftab Poonawala, her Instagram chat history, and her mobile location. How did Aftab Poonawala, who is accused of murdering his live-in partner Shraddha Walker and dispersing her body parts in a jungle six months ago, ultimately be apprehended for the crime? According to the police, he created a trail of Instagram interactions and money transfers to suggest that she had left on her own, but the route actually led to him.
At first, Aftab Poonawala was called in for interrogation on October 26 after Shraddha Walker’s father contacted the police in Vasai, close to Mumbai, last month. After an argument on May 22, he told the police that she had left their rental apartment in Chhatarpur in Delhi’s Mehrauli neighborhood.
It was then determined that he had already murdered her four days earlier. They had just moved to Delhi two weeks prior to this. investigators followed the phone’s activity, call history, and signal position after he told the police she had just taken her mobile phone, leaving her clothes and other possessions behind.

They discovered that between May 22 and May 26, 54,000 had been moved using Shraddha Walker’s phone’s banking app from her account to Aftab Poonawalla’s. The place was Chhatarpur in Mehrauli, close to where they had previously shared housing. He had previously informed the police that he hadn’t spoken to her “ever since she left on May 22,” which raised concerns.
When he admitted to the police that he had made the bank transactions since he knew her phone and app passwords, he was called back in for interrogation at the beginning of this month. In order to prevent bank representatives from visiting her Mumbai address, he has also been paying her credit card payments.
Meanwhile, the police discovered that he had been chatting with her friends on her Instagram account. According to sources, one of the talks from May 31 indicated that the phone was once more in Mehrauli. The Delhi Police was then contacted by police from Vasai’s Manipur police station. When they caught him, they posed the crucial question that ultimately solved the case: How could she still be in Mehrauli if she had left him on May 22? According to police sources who spoke to NDTV, Aftab Poonawala then sobbed and described the horrific facts.
Of the 35 bits of her body that he scattered over 18 days in a woodland next to their leased apartment, he has so far helped the police find at least 10 of them. It is known that Shraddha Walker’s parents stopped communicating with her since last year because they disapproved of her interfaith (Hindu-Muslim) relationship with Aftab Poonawala. When some of her friends told her father last month that she hadn’t been in touch with them either, her father became concerned.
Both Vasai natives Aftab Poonawala and Shraddha Walker connected through a dating app in 2019. They came to Delhi in May, just 10 days before he killed her, having previously lived together in Mumbai, where they both worked at a call center. Earlier this year, they took a lengthy vacation in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Her friends claim that she mentioned Aftab’s violent behavior during fights because she thought he had been unfaithful.
